The conception of Jack’s Kids began in 1993 when Pierce Frauenheim and Jack Gardner had a friend that heard the worst news a parent could hear about their child. “She has cancer”. They saw the emotional turmoil this was taking on the family and wanted to help and with the support of the Somerville Elks and the community they did. Twenty Five years later, the Jack’s Kids Committee is still doing it.
On Saturday, July 8th, 2017 the 25th Annual Jack Gardner Memorial Softball Tournament took place. It was hosted by the Somerville Elks Lodge #1068 and organized by the Jack’s Kids Committee. It is our mission to ease the financial burden to families dealing with serious childhood illnesses and/or serious disabilities, so they can focus on wrapping their family in the love and attention they need. In order to meet our mission, we rely on the generosity of individuals and businesses for support. Without the assistanceof community-minded individuals just like you, we wouldn’t be able to serve those in our organization each year.
As in past years, all proceeds will continue to assist past recipients as well as our new families. Each ‘Jack’s Kid’ has their own unique and special story. To learn more about our kids, please visit the Jack’s Kids Page. You will be as amazed and touched by these children and their stories as we are. They truly are some of the bravest souls we know!
We were honored that the New Jersey State PBA President, Pat Colligan was our Honorary Chairperson of this year’s tournament. Pat stated, “I am honored to be the Honorary Chair of an Organization that is full of true superheroes….these small children fighting big battles. Their hearts and perseverance are an inspiration to us all.” Pat announced at the tournament that the New Jersey PBA donated $2,500 to Jack’s Kids.
Although the tournament is a wonderful way to share the day with these truly heroic families, none of this would be possible without the outstanding and generous support from our volunteers, donors, sponsors and business owners. You truly are the life line of this organization. Without you we could not help Jack’s Kids and their families. Every year we have a larger impact on these families as well as our community.
Your generosity is making a difference with the Jack’s Kids families by allowing us to continue in our work.
The Jack’s Kids organization and their families would like to thank you for your continued support!
